Love is Murder on Dark and Stormy Nights is Chicagoland's premier conference for writers and readers of mystery, suspense, romantic suspense horror and other dark fiction genres.

The attendance of Love is Murder in 2007 was 300, and it is always growing. To put this in perspective, the 2008 conference will be LIM's tenth year. The first year the attendance was 70. We are a smallish regional conference, but we have been attracting a stellar group of writers from all over.

We can offer you a rich and untapped source of new and seasoned writers who might be perfect for your company, and they come eager to meet you. The aspiring writers who normally attend LIM are a sophisticated bunch, with lots of writing workshops at their disposal. LIM itselfprovides Master Presentations every year, and they are always packed.Plus, LIM is a great source for networking activities in a major market, as we have a good showing of librarians, reviewers, and writing organization reps from groups like Sister's in Crime and Mystery Writers of America.

We can also offer you specific promotional opportunities. For instance, you could sponsor a part of the conference, for instance the very popular High Tea, where all attendees mingle with authors and purchase their books. LIM would be glad to feature one of your authors as a featured writer, providing your author with special space in the program. There are lots of other promotional opportunities, and we would be glad to discuss them, but some others include sponsoring a panel, display space, program ads and more.

2009 Sponsorship Opportunities

We at Love Is Murder on Dark and Stormy Nights would like to invite you and your clients to join us for LIM 2009.

What makes Love Is Murder the only Chicago/Midwestern conference to attend is the scope of the attendees. For authors, it’s the fans. We have more reader attendees than any other conference of its type in the area, and more fans mean more book sales and exposure. For author-wannabes, we have more pitch and schmooze meetings, plus a larger variety of manuscript readers than anyone else. As someone on the publication/publicity side, LIM attracts more excellent writers just looking to be discovered, or rediscovered.

Plus, there’s an added incentive to sponsoring an event. Your sponsorship will create goodwill with the audience and with the LIM Board. We will provide free web links to your company on the Love Is Murder web site, and then leave it up all year.

Saturday Lunch
We consider this THE key event of our conference, attracting all attendees as a captive audience. A previous sponsor, a publisher, decorated the room with the covers of her author's books.

Welcoming Reception
This kicks off our conference Friday evening before dinner.

High Tea
This fun, high-visibility event attracts all attendees in a low-key atmosphere, providing opportunities for mingling with authors, editors, agents. Participants sip tea and taste crumpets.

Saturday Awards Dinner
It's a plenary event that honors winners of the Love Is Murders awards. This year, we also include a talent show of participants.

Ghost Stories
We invite authors to tell (or read) their ghost stories in a room in the evening with scary decorations.

Any Panel on the Program
You help create a panel and host it, or look over our schedule and pick something.
